Job Title: Aircraft Avionics Technician

Reports To: Maintenance Manager / Avionics Supervisor

Location: [Insert Location or Base]

Travel Requirement: Occasional, including weekends and holidays

Position Summary

The Aircraft Avionics Technician is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining the electronic systems and components of A320 family aircraft. This role ensures all avionics systems are operational and comply with FAA regulations, manufacturer specifications, and company maintenance procedures. The technician plays a key role in aircraft airworthiness and reliability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect, test, and repair aircraft electrical and avionics systems including communication, navigation, radar, flight control, lighting, and power distribution.
  • Diagnose malfunctions using wiring diagrams, schematics, test equipment, and maintenance manuals.
  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on all avionics systems.
  • Conduct removal and replacement of LRUs (Line Replaceable Units).
  • Assist in modifications and upgrades to aircraft avionics systems, including STC and service bulletin installations.
  • Verify system performance using specialized tools such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, and built-in aircraft test equipment.
  • Document maintenance actions accurately in accordance with FAA regulations and company procedures.
  • Ensure strict compliance with safety and quality standards during all tasks.
  • Coordinate with Maintenance Control, Engineering, and Quality Assurance for system troubleshooting and repair solutions.
  • Maintain and manage avionics-related tools and test equipment.
  • Provide on-site avionics support during AOG (Aircraft on Ground) events when required.
  • Support internal audits and inspections as directed by Quality or Regulatory authorities.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) Certificate OR FCC General Radiotelephone Operator License (GROL) preferred.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of hands-on avionics experience on commercial aircraft; A320 family experience preferred.
  • Successful completion of A320 Avionics Familiarization Training (40 hours minimum) highly desirable.
  • Strong working knowledge of aircraft electrical wiring diagrams (EWIS), schematics, and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documentation including AMMs, WDMs, MELs, and SBs.
  • Proficient in the use of avionics test equipment and hand tools.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain SIDA badge and airport security clearance.
  • Valid driver’s license and U.S. passport required.
  • Must meet 14 CFR 65.83 recent experience requirements.
  • Able to work variable shifts, weekends, holidays, and respond to off-hour AOG support.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally on short notice.

Working Conditions

  • Frequent exposure to noise, vibration, extreme temperatures, and chemicals.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, bend, climb, and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Work performed in hangars, on ramps, and in outdoor conditions.
